NATCHER CONFERENCE CENTER INFORMATION

The Natcher Conference Center (NCC) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and is located on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The NIH, like all Federal Government facilities, has recently instituted new security measures to ensure the safety of NIH employees, patients, and visitors. All employees and visitors entering the Natcher Conference Center must show two forms of ID; one must be a photo ID. All employees and visitors should be prepared to have their personal belongings inspected and to go through a metal detection inspection (wand, magnetometer, etc). Further information on getting off and on campus, visitor parking and transportation, and access to NIH building can be found at http://www.nih.gov/about/visitorsecurity.htm.

Ground Transportation to the NIH Campus
We strongly encourage you to take Metro to the Natcher Conference Center. There are very few visitor parking spaces at NIH. The Natcher Conference Center is a 5-minute walk from the Medical Center station on the Red Line. The Natcher Building is located on Center Drive directly behind the Medical Center Stop.

By Metro (subway): Take the Red Line and exit at Medical Center Station. Upon exiting the station at the ground level, take the steps/ramp to your left. You will see the Natcher Conference Center directly in front of you as you proceed up the steps/ramp.

By Taxi:

From Ronald Reagan National Airport: 12 miles from NIH; one way fare is approximately $35.

From Dulles International Airport: 26.2 miles from NIH; one-way far is approximately $45.

From Baltimore-Washington Airport: 34.5 miles from NIH; one-way fare is approximately $55. Various airport shuttles can take you into Bethesda for approximately $30.

Driving Directions: Take Exit 34 (Bethesda/Rockville, Wisconsin Avenue) from the Capital Beltway (Route 495) and follow signs for Route 355 South--towards Bethesda. Go approximately 1.5 miles south on Route 355 towards Bethesda. Turn right on South Drive. Pull over to the right into the security area to be inspected. After inspection, take South Drive to Center Drive. Turn left on Center Drive. Follow Center Drive to the Natcher Center Parking. Be advised that your car will need to undergo another security inspection if you wish to park in any garage on campus.

An alternative to attempting to park at NIH is to drive to Bethesda and park in a public lot in Bethesda. From Bethesda you can either take the Metro (stop is located at East West Highway and Wisconsin Ave.) to the Medical Center Stop or walk up Wisconsin Avenue to Center Drive (about a 10-15 minute walk). You may also drive and park at other Metro Stops on the Red Line that have public parking and take the Metro to the Medical Center station. Convenient stops include Rockville, White Flint, and Grovesnor.

Food and Vending Service
The Natcher Building has a cafeteria, with open and private dining facilities, located on the first floor level, A Wing. Service hours are 6:30 am - 2:30 pm.
