Differentiation Control Section
The Differentiation Control Section is dedicated to the study of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the maintenance of normal epithelial differentiation and their derangement during the process of malignant progression. Using keratinocytes as well as other model systems, the physiologic role of retinoic acid in regulating normal differentiative functions is explored. In addition, the mechanism by which retinoic acid acts as a pharmacological antipromoter in skin and other tissues is being defined. The action of estrogen receptors in cervical and breast epithelia and in their neoplastic derivative cells is also being studied.
