Preceptorships - Division of Cancer Prevention
Organ Systems Research Groups
The efforts of the Breast and Gynecologic Cancer Organ System Research Group are specifically directed at reducing the incidence, morbidity, and mortality of breast and gynecologic cancers, particularly through planning, supporting, and conducting research and clinical trials that develop interventions for risk assessment, screening, early detection, and prevention of breast and gynecologic cancers.

Cervical and endometrial cancer trials.
Development of human papillomavirus vaccines for use in cervical cancer prevention trials. Identification of surrogate endpoint biomarkers needed for these trials.
Definition of specific risk groups as target populations for prevention trials of gynecologic malignancies.
Meta-analysis of progestin relative to estrogen dose exposure as it relates to endometrial cancer risk, to determine critical progestin doses needed to prevent endometrial cancer in women with exogenous and high endogenous estrogen exposure.

Cervical cytology studies.
Direct ASCUS/LSIL Triage Study, a multi center clinical trial on alternative management options for equivocal and low-grade cervical cytology results.
Coordinate Bethesda 2001 Workshop to revisit cervical cytology terminology.
Work with national professional organizations, women's groups, CDC, HCFA, and FDA to foster effective cervical cancer screening efforts and evidence-based evaluation of new screening technologies.
