Karen Glanz is Charles Howard Candler Professor and Director of the Emory Prevention Research Center at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, in Atlanta.

Learning Objective

  1. Be able to describe objective methods to test the criterion validity of self-report measures of sun exposure, sunscreen use, and covering-up behavior related to skin cancer prevention.
  2. Explain the validity findings for sunscreen swabbing compared to survey and diary measures.
  3. Demonstrate the importance of evaluating systematic error in sub-groups by gender, skin color, latitude, and study arms.
